Life & Naansense

I believe that love that is true and real, creates a respite from death. All cowardice comes from not loving or not loving well, which is the same thing. And then the man who is brave and true looks death squarely in the face, like some rhino-hunters I know or Belmonte, who is truly brave… It is because they make love with sufficient passion, to push death out of their minds… until it returns, as it does, to all men… and then you must make really good love again.
Adriana: I can never decide whether Paris is more beautiful by day or by night. Gil: No, you can’t, you couldn’t pick one. I mean I can give you a checkmate argument for each side. You know, I sometimes think, how is anyone ever gonna come up with a book, or a painting, or a symphony, or a sculpture that can compete with a great city. You can’t. Because you look around and every street, every boulevard, is its own special art form and when you think that in the cold, violent, meaningless universe that Paris exists, these lights, I mean come on, there’s nothing happening on Jupiter or Neptune, but from way out in space you can see these lights, the cafés, people drinking and singing. For all we know, Paris is the hottest spot in the universe.

What a delicious movie. It gives us a sweet, fluffy and subtly rich dessert which you swirl in your mouth with each deliberate yet dreamy bite while time passes away in some distant memory. Every corner of Paris, and this movie, tuck within it a different light and story. This has got to get your art neurons glowing.

Panic Room

I had seen it in movies, i had heard people tell stories about it. Today, i experienced it first-hand - that moment when the realization, that the elevator you are in might just fall any moment, hits you. Boom!

Indifference silence in the elevator suddenly morphed into a despairing, screaming confusion. The women held on to each other. One Japanese guy went down on all fours. All this while the elevator’s machinery continued springing scarier sounds all around us. A woman dug her fingers into my arm and while i held her hand i was staring upwards because that’s where all the action appeared to be happening. And then three mini-blasts happened somewhere above us as something short circuited. Smoke revealed itself creepily into the elevator and the shouts grew louder while the elevator boy panicked further under his show of calm.

We managed to reach a floor where the doors opened and the whole mass of terrorized and now nervously joyous humans tumbled out. The authorities were informed, the elevator was shut down for the day and i hurried upstairs with a thrilling story to tell everyone.

How did i feel in the middle of all this? Fear passed through me, for about three-four seconds. It was quickly replaced with confused disbelief at people’s pleas for not dying. I thought to myself, “Eh? Are we thinking about dying here?” To think that i would die in such a way sounded so incredulous that i discarded its possibility. Instead i stood and observed how everyone was responding to the seeming calamity. It was rather filmy to me and for a second i felt “Wow yaar. Yeh toh bada filmy hai!! (Wow. This is so filmy!)

The one thing which stood out and is still floating in my mind was how quickly most of the people jumped to the possibility that we were going to die. Right there.
No one thought about injuries, burns, fractures, concussions. Everyone leaped to the top most (and the last?) rung of the ladder of possibilities.

Why would we do that? Is it psyche’s way of preparing us for the worst possible? Or a reflection of how fear absolves us, by default, to think of a positive outcome? Or that we have been fed on a diet of over dramatic movies?

ps. I can’t wait to get old and narrate an over-dramatised version to my grandkids.

our deepest fear

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Perhaps, one of the fears we should have, is that we don’t become perfect.

“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only i will remain.”

~ Shards ~

Everything in life comes with its time; irrespective of our comfort or pain, or both. It’s our prerogative to see each of these through, till they complete their time - of arriving as well as subsistence.

- moi

Every morning when the light hits our eyes, we face a primal choice to make; Love or Fear. And therein goes the rest of your day.

- yours truly

I guess we’ve been bombarded with too much at the same time. And in that, the core has been buried beneath the rubble. This oblivion scares us, angers us, frustrates us. We try to cope, we pretend.

But truth has a habit of catching up.

- okay, okay. I’m leaving now.
