The Almond in the Dark
This evening while in the middle of a household chore i found myself standing in semi-darkness. At that moment, my mom came towards me with her hand extended and popped something in my mouth. My brain: “Unidentified object discovered within the premises of the mouth.”
I rolled the tiny thing in my mouth to assess it’s size and shape.
“Hmmm. Slightly bigger than your thumb...

I do not understand Boredom
I just don’t. It’s one of those mysterious phenomena which my faculty feels handicapped in comprehending. I see many people deal with, but don’t understand how they do it. I hear people complain about it daily, but don’t understand their language. I read about people dealing with it, but don’t understand their words. I listen to people talk about it, but don’t...

Weeding Life
Our life is our garden and we are responsible for what grows within its premises. We own the health and rigour which engulfs this space. The garden comprises of entities, animate or inanimate, and their associations, deep or short-lived. Each of these serve us a purpose, whether utilitarian or aesthetic, intellectual or emotional, and more.
Time moves and so does this network of...

Making the whole world blind - how Punishment is...
My eyes roved over the humble, whitewashed veranda dotted with narrow doors to all the classrooms, now reverberating with the rote chanting which haunts most Indian government schools. Just then, three girls with somber faces tramped out of one of those blue, wooden slits. The exit was clearly in adherence with a punishment doled out by their teacher, who with the power vested in her, was trying...

The purpose of purpose - may I?
I teetered as my right leg protested the unfair load i was putting on it, while the left one hung in mid-air without a care. The arms stepped up to help and swung in wild, desperate strokes to avoid an unwanted, unpleasant, not to mention embarrassing, encounter of me with the floor. And just when i thought that a fall was imminent, the eyes moved and sought out a point on the wall in front, hung...

A cold gust and the world crawls back into my eyes.
You find me in the isolated darkness. A lone star; a sigh, a caress.
We peer ahead without time wave after wave of remembrance throes of rediscovery, riding through the rhythm every shadow now ascurry.

Jisse nigaahein pehchaan na sakkein
Dhoondhte ho jisse, nigaahein usse pehchaan na sakkein. Khamoshi ke ankur ko sehla do zarra, uss bechaine tarannum mein hai sab bhara. Tum uss mein ya woh tum mein, jaan saka na koi. Bhaage tu pal pal duur tu apne se judaa ho kar royi. Sab mein ankit usske nishaan; hawa, ped, jharne aur patte. Dhoondhte ho jisse, nigaahein usse pehchaan na sakkein. Hai matwala mausam tu zarra jhoom toh sahi. Dagar...

And people wonder why we have such distorted body...
Doctors: Anorexia is an epidemic, people need to eat.
Doctors: Obesity is an epidemic, people eat too much.
Society: People have unhealthy body images, accept your body the way it is!
Society: People should be more concerend about their health, exercise & eat right!
Media: Celebrities are way too skinny, they are setting a bad example for young girls.
Media: This singer gained 20 pounds, she must be really unhappy.
People: Being too skinny is gross, real women have curves.
People: Eww, fat rolls.
Friends: You're so pretty, you're not fat.
Friends: Eww I'm so gross, I need to lose weight.
Family: Don't starve yourself, eat. It's not that hard.
Family: You ate all of this for breakfast? What is wrong with you?

“I chose to be a writer in girlhood because books rescued me. They were the places where I could bring the broken bits and pieces of myself and put them together again, the places where I could dream about alternative realities, possible futures. They let me know firsthand that if the mind was to be the site of resistance, only the imagination could make it so. To imagine, then, was a way to begin...

Eternal Spring
Even Before the sun churns liquid gold Before the streams go gurgling Before the colours burst so bold This you should know - Eternal spring is hiding below. Even While the frost silences the song While the wordless wind pierces your shield While the blank clouds scatter all along This you should know - Eternal spring is hiding below.
Even After your heart’s pieces are belted After your old...

A beautiful mind
Whirring smoothly while it goes through the day, chuckling to itself at the inherent ironies and silly twists that the world offers, sighing at the grandeur that the senses absorb and somersaulting on each new quirk, each newness that it discovers about its environment and its inhabitants and their paradigms.
At times, it’s like a happy kid chasing the butterflies, kicking little pebbles,...
